1. If you want to settle in China, 5 things you need to do.
First things first, go get a Chinese permanent SIM , then a bank account the first chance you get. And in that order. That makes things convenient, it also takes a week for your card to activate. You can now open a chinese bank account with just a passport and Chinese phone number.
Second, you can continue to use your credit card on WeChat. You will just incur a small 3 percent fee for amounts greater than 300 yuan per transaction. The other limitation is you can pay for stuff but cannot transfer to another person, or accept transfers.
Thirdly, I have both my SG number and Chinese number linked to my WeChat. Seems okay. I can’t recall how I did it, or when. But I don’t seem to have a problem.
Fourthly, download Alipay if you want to take public transport, link to your credit card first. Alipay is easier to use for public transport.
Five, download DiDi app for rides or taxis once you get your Chinese number, link to your Alipay or WeChat pay. There is a English international version . You don’t really need a Chinese number, but it’s easier and cheaper when your driver calls you when they can’t find you. You don’t want your call to cost much more than your ride.
When you serch didi on your app store, there are two didi app, the second one is for taxis, please download that one.
Another thing you need to know, for the taxi you can pay cash and you can pay cash everywhere until you get your local bank card.

1)Buy it at airport
On arrival there’s a new international services desk from the government that sells sim cards for foreigners that are unrestricted. 1,2 or 4 weeks valid. Don’t go to the small booths, search for international services desk. Opened 24/7, 24h. these cards can only be bought by foreigners and don’t have restrictions. You can buy local SIM card when the stores will open. If you have a working visa you can easily apply for Chinese bank card (debit card). It will take you two weeks waiting. After that you can change your phone number and bank card easily in WeChat. I went through all these steps three months ago.
